Based in France before the war, and after the war for a extended period in New York and Hawaii, Genichiro Inokuma forged close ties with many world-renowned artists. He earned a reputation as an civilian ambassador for art and Japan in New York and was a pivotal figure in international cultural exchange in both an official and private capacity, including as an advisor to the Consulate-General of Japan in New York, and the Japan External Trade Organization. Inokuma also played a standout part in the post-war cultural revitalization of Japan and Kagawa Prefecture, and the promotion of design.
